Grassroots Funding with CVS

In summer 2008 Warrington CVS was chosen to  launch the Grassroots Grants fund in Warrington and the local area.

This is Government money to provide small grants to small and local voluntary, grassroots grants logocommunity and faith groups.

Community and voluntary groups from Warrington with an income of 30k or less a year are invited to apply for up to 5k over 3 years.

The Grassroots programme is already a success with the first round of applications assessed and awarded.

Chris Holt, Co-Ordinator of the John Holt Cancer Support Foundation received a grant and says, “The support given by the Grassroots Grant has helped towards the running of the office as well as help fund our careline, which is so important to those we support, these kinds of grants are key to the smooth running of small organisations like ourselves.”

Peter Challinor of Warrington Brass has been successful in receiving a grant. He said, “We found the process of applying for Grassroots Grants relatively simple and now we have funding to increase what we are able to offer more to the community and reach even more people in need. I personally want to say thank you to Grassroots. It is grants like these that allow us to continue to support and help the Warrington community.”

Applications are assessed by an independent local panel and grants are awarded based on the information provided in the application.

The programme has 2 elements, a small Grants Fund for applications between £250 and £5000 and an endowment scheme.

Warrington CVS is responsible for setting up the endowment scheme which will continue to award grants after funding stops in 2011.
